Travel to Peru day 1 or 24 hours of airport lessons in travel
July 13th, 2007
Well, i am off to Peru to go to Lima and then up North…..or am i?

Wednesday leave to head up to miami because i have surf board and kite gear cant fly out of key west. The signs:

1] Pedro, surfing bro says” i heard it snowed in PERU, 1ST time in 86 years”… what!! I am in flip flops and have only shorts…

2] With the airport in sight, I can see smoke… oh great the tower is on fire! Plans are still going this is going to be great.

3] Check in all bags are sent through [they were all the correct weight, i will do another travel post on how to pack kiteboarding gear and weights]… head to the Admirals Club to chill before flight, it is now 3:00…

It seems a roofer set off a fire on top of the new air traffic control tower at MIA. Lots of black smoke, had to have been an interesting sight.

Mancora, stand up paddle surfing and the universal fisherman
July 16th, 2007
Ok, so it 6 am i get up , small waves, i take my stand up board and go see the coast. I see all the fisherman up the coast so i go paddle to them. Its a unwriten rule when you ask what kind of fish are around after you paddle up 1-4 in your own-board, that you get some instant credit. We all have a good laugh about me being off shore and they tell me some spots togo spearing for fish, toss me one they have.

Have fun and be sure to take lots of pictures. Don't feel bad about all the 9 m days you're missing here, there haven't been any! Looking forward to checking out some of the riding shots.

I just put something up using the same camera you turned me on to, the Olympus 770 sw at: http://fksa.org/showthread.php?goto=newpost&t=4372

Cool! Stumbled on this thread and am blown away that you were able to bring the 11'11" SOS Big Red with you (I've got BRed and BBlue, drove up to Wardog's, he told me he sent you one). I've got to know:

1. Any additional fee for flying with the SUB? How did the airline handle it?
2. Did you SUP it on any of those left handers when they were firing? I'm screw foot so Mancora is a "must do" for me?
3. Did you run into any other SUP surfers while down there?

It's great how the SUB opens up so many doors with locals- everywhere I go people are blown away by it (kind of the same feeling as when kiting was in its infancy). The stand up boards just make a no wind, barely surfable day a blast don't they? Cool to hear how local fishermen took to it, too. Would love to see some larger pictures of the wave set ups etc.

Am hugely jealous of your trip- you killed it bro! Go check out my blog of my baja trip with my Big Red: paddlesurf.net not as good of surf as you scored but fun. Plan on setting up a learners camp down there for next July for beginning stand up paddlers.

By the way: would love to hear your input on Big Red. I've ridden many other boards including custom shapes, C4's, Waldens etc and have not found another board that does as many things as well as the Big Red. What do you think?

All i can say is that i love stand up.......surf is awesome as well, but i get 10x more days on stand up. I have been riding some big stuff, on the big red and jimmy lewis.....i put smaller fins on them, so i could surf eaiser and cut better. For the faster waves, a 10.0 is great i want to try seans and jimmys new 10.

Went on American airlines, paid 50 for surfboard, as long as it is under the wieght, you pay the surf charge....get some looks thats for sure....great to hear you are teaching, i am putting boards in both schools for oct - may to intruduce people to it, so much fun, plus no waves, you get ripped paddling for exercise, beats the gym any day!

My best wishes to all down south in Peru, checked in with some friends, sounds like it really sucked! They really got nervous with the tsunomi alarms went off.

On a postive note, they are all helping each other out and so are other people in the world, good to see we are not selfish.
