I'm planning a trip to Margarita Island off the coast of Venezuala. I'm going to be there for three weeks: from August 5- 26. I hope to kite as much as possible through the time that i spend there. First does anyone know the wind conditions that time of year there and any advise for my quiver? Second, id it worth it to even bring my kites and board, becasue i have heard that things tend to get "lost" on the Venezualan airlines. Is it better to just rent for a few weeks? Finally, how's the riding down there...any reviews/suggestions of where to go, what to do... Lastly, will i find trouble down there being an American with the political tensions?

I've yet to make it there myself and have heard similar things about Aeropostal. I am not sure about the political climate at present either. As a rule mainland tensions didn't migrate as far as the islands. These days, who knows? I would send a PM to Paul Menta with The Kitehouse. He used to have an operation there during the summer and knows conditions there pretty well. I do know the wind may turn off in those latitudes in the ABC islands much into August or September. The rest of the year it is usually excellent there.
