The techno-gnomes at JPL have dished out a new resource for wind junkies, Seawinds on QuikSCAT.

The scale is a bit coarse but if you have a system inbound and are wondering, is this going to be a strong front, tropical system, whatever, you might be able to get a qualitative idea of what you may be in store for. My calculator says that 1 m/s = about 2 kts. so 10 m/s is about 20 kts. So check it out and see if something strong is coming your way or no.
