I had some questions about images contained in the "Bachelorette Party Video." The following still images were captured from the video. If you click on the images they will appear in full size on a new page if desired. Elapsed times in minutes during the video are listed below the images.

http://www.fksa.org/albums/album475/0_55_s.sized.jpg (http://www.fksa.org/gallery/album475/0_55_s?full=1)
The background sky to the south at 0:55 seconds

http://www.fksa.org/albums/album475/3_06.sized.jpg (http://www.fksa.org/gallery/album475/3_06?full=1)
The background sky to the south at 3:06 minutes

Q1. Would you please describe the nature of the sky conditions (cloud appearance, coverage, approximate wind speed and direction, rain, etc.) during the onsite of conditions depicted around 3:06 minutes? Would anyone have an estimate as to the approximate time of day of these two first images shown above.

http://www.fksa.org/albums/album475/1_55.sized.jpg (http://www.fksa.org/gallery/album475/1_55?full=1)
At 1:55 minutes

Q2. Can someone provide the identity and affiliation of the kiteboarder trying to relaunch his kite?

http://www.fksa.org/albums/album475/2_24.sized.jpg (http://www.fksa.org/gallery/album475/2_24?full=1)
2:42 minutes

Q3. Can someone provide the identity of the other two men by the kiteboarder winding his lines up and indicate whether they are kiteboarders as well? Were any affiliated with the school? The wind speed appears to have dropped substantially, can anyone confirm this?

http://www.fksa.org/albums/album475/2_32.sized.jpg (http://www.fksa.org/gallery/album475/2_32?full=1)
2:32 minutes

Q4. Can some provide the identity and affiliation of this man. He picks up a kiteboard shortly after this scene. I believe he was using the 9 m EH kite that appears in the video in successive images.

http://www.fksa.org/albums/album475/2_45.sized.jpg (http://www.fksa.org/gallery/album475/2_45?full=1)
2:45 minutes

Q5. Can anyone provide the identity of the operator of this kite shown on the beach?

http://www.fksa.org/albums/album475/2_47.sized.jpg (http://www.fksa.org/gallery/album475/2_47?full=1)
2:47 minutes

http://www.fksa.org/albums/album475/3_06.sized.jpg (http://www.fksa.org/gallery/album475/3_06?full=1)
3:06 minutes

The sky darkens perceptibly in the two images shown above.

Q6. Does anyone recall people involved in the school describing these weather conditions? If so, how did they describe them? When did they claim to have become alarmed in response to them?

http://www.fksa.org/albums/album475/3_30.sized.jpg (http://www.fksa.org/gallery/album475/3_30?full=1)
3:30 minutes

Jonas is on the beach, perhaps just after relaunching his kite. The kite doesn't appear to be excessively loaded up with power yet.

Q7. Can anyone tell me whether Jonas was wearing a seat or waist harness? A waist harness goes around the kiteboarder's torso and can rise up to his chest if heavily loaded. A seat harness is held in place around his pelvis and can't rise up.

http://www.fksa.org/albums/album475/3_42.sized.jpg (http://www.fksa.org/gallery/album475/3_42?full=1)
3:42 minutes

Jonas is experiencing stronger kite load as evidenced by his arms extended overhead trying to control the kite.

http://www.fksa.org/albums/album475/3_45.sized.jpg (http://www.fksa.org/gallery/album475/3_45?full=1)
3:45 minutes

Jonas is being overpowered by the kite and is being pulled across the beach to the west by the kite as it turns perhaps into a loop.

http://www.fksa.org/albums/album475/3_47.sized.jpg (http://www.fksa.org/gallery/album475/3_47?full=1)
3:47 minutes

Jonas is running as he is pulled stronger by the kite to the west.

http://www.fksa.org/albums/album475/3_47b.sized.jpg (http://www.fksa.org/gallery/album475/3_47b?full=1)
Slightly after 3:47 minutes

Jonas is still on the ground running while being pulled by the kite.

http://www.fksa.org/albums/album475/3_49.sized.jpg (http://www.fksa.org/gallery/album475/3_49?full=1)
3:49 minutes

Jonas has been lofted evidenced by the women looking upward to the SE. The kite may have looped and/or the wind speed may have increased very substantially.

http://www.fksa.org/albums/album475/3_50.sized.jpg (http://www.fksa.org/gallery/album475/3_50?full=1)
3:50 minutes

Jonas has apparently gained altitude based upon the head placement of the observers.

http://www.fksa.org/albums/album475/3_56.sized.jpg (http://www.fksa.org/gallery/album475/3_56?full=1)
3:56 minutes

http://www.fksa.org/albums/album475/3_57.sized.jpg (http://www.fksa.org/albums/album475/3_57.jpg)
3:57 minutes

Jonas is still aloft, for at least 8 or more seconds and the video ends.

Q8. Does anyone know at what time the school became aware of Jonas' accident and what they did in response?

Thank you for your assistance.

Rick

Heading back down to the Pryde Group Dealer Meeting in Islamorada, FL for another look at things. This time images of 2012 Cabrinha gear including kites and bars will be shown along with some early impressions.

Be sure to checkout the first article on this event for additional information HERE (http://fksa.org/showthread.php?t=10764)

The closer kite is the Vector new for 2012. The Vector is described as a very stable, easy flying kite referred to as the Universal Ride for the wide conditions it is suitable for. I flew it and found it to be very stable a particular plus for camera checks. I understand it is expected to be a hit with kite schools.

Pete Cabrinha presents the gear line up for 2012 personally. Here he is describing the new control bar and quick release known as the Quick Link Control System with IDS. The system focuses on ease of use, an uncluttered bar and ergonomics. It has an internal swivel, external spinning leash connection, a wider more flared center hole and more. The bar has three means of depowering the kite including pushing the bar out, IDS activation (pushing the Quick Link Unit away or opening the quick release) or disconnecting from the kite by pulling the red plunger knob at the base of the chicken loop.

I believe the kite on the left is the Nomad while that is the Switchblade on the right. The Nomad was developed for high end free style riding with fast turning and great unhooked attributes. It isn't intended as a beginners kite but for experienced riders looking for free style performance.

Matt on the Spectrum created to fill the gap between surfboards and raceboards with a high volume directional shape. I tried it with lighter wind and smaller kites, it really pointed nicely helping get things back upwind with a minimum of tacks. I haven't bought a directional is some time, plan on getting one of these soon.
