Anyone got a recommendation on a light wind wide board? I'm currently riding my home made "Zebra" (60" x 18") board. It's great for cruising and going upwind, but it's a little heavy for jumping and I don't want to break it. :?:

See the discussion about Spleene Boards on the air padre forum

Best place to buy Spleene boards is Air Padre. Talk to Jeff or Brian.

They sell more Spleene boards than anyone in the US

tell them I said hello!

cheers

Try looking on EBay or Ikitesurf for a used Underground Magic Carpet is my suggestion. Board screams upwind and is VERY floaty and is pretty light. Other good lightwind boards are the Aggression Barn Door and the Slingshot Glide...

Here are some early impressions of a new Florida-New Zealand board ...

I've just started to checkout the FLX XXXL board in light winds developed by Underground Boards in New Zealand with Extreme Kites in St. Augustine, FL. The board measures about 150 cm by 45 cm (midsection) by 1 cm thick tapering to .5 cm at the ends. So far so good, it goes upwind well and through chop without difficulty. It also jumps fairly easily. Despite the size and boxy appearance it has the feel of a smaller board. I have yet to try it on calm water absent any waves at all. I have been using it with a Contra 14 m at around 190 lbs.. I loaned it to other guys both lighter and about the same weight. All of us pointed well upwind despite lighter conditions. More to come on this.

Some more details and observations about this board appear at:

I have had great performance out of the Underground FLX-XXXL board. It is 150 cm by about 45 cm but feels like a much smaller board. It goes upwind well and cuts through waves nicely.
