There is a beach cleanup scheduled for Sat. Sept. 9 at 8:00 AM. This has been coordinated with Pinellas County Environmental Management, who are the dedicated folks that keep this place beautiful for all of us. Volunteers will be picked up at Ft. Desoto boat ramp and provided with water and trash bags. This should only take a few hours, and we will be kiting or wakeboarding the rest of the day. A cookout will go down at Desoto afterwards.
I know some of you guys have been there for kiting and camping, and already know how sweet this place is. For those who haven't, now's your chance to check it out and do some good for the neighborhood at the same time! Pinellas County has been VERY NICE to kiters so far,, let's ALL show up and give our support.
We have a few boats lined up, but may need more, depening on the turnout.
Anyone wishing to volunteer please PM me

Thanks Matt, good to know that the Eckerd crew will be there.(BTW, welcome back, and congrats on the mention in the mag!) This is going to be an epic season for sure! This cleanup is the first of many for Pinellas County, and should go a long way in helping to keep the kiting community on their good side. Its a small price to pay for FREE/ unrestricted access to this beautiful area. Can you imagine a life without Pinellas beaches/Desoto? Think about that for a minute............................................ .................................................. ......................sign up now

Cmon guys, let's show our support. Amber and I are in...don't you all wanna be like the cool kids??? And it's my Mother's birthday to boot!!! I'll see her later in the day/evening... Time for us to support the community the way they support our great sport with these killer spots!!! There were only a few of us representing at the East Beach cleanup last season, let's expand on that!!!

I'm planning on being getting out to help too. Already PMed about it a while ago. I have to agree with kite-4-life that this would help kiteboarding to be seen as a friend of the community. Who know's maybe we could eventually get North Beach access again... that might be stretching it though.

Mostly, I think it would just be a fun day of hanging out. I mean really... how long could it take to pick up some debris. An hour or two? Then wakebaording after that? 8)

I was out on that Island a couple weeks ago and it looked fine to me. And that was even in late afternoon when all the drunks were out. The fact that they're not allowed to drink on shore helps keep the litter down to a minimum.

Just a reminder- We are on for Saturday morning at 8:00 sharp

We are expecting a good turnout, especially from the Eckerd crew! This is definitely going to be a good time, and a great party after.

Most importantly, we will be giving something back to the community as a group, as well as building credibility with county/park officials.

PM me if you havent already

The meeting spot is in the boat ramp area, on the right, just after the bridge into the park. Pull in there and go to the right (east) side of parking lot. We should wrap this thing up early, so dont be late!

Will be there. I'll bring your ph# just in case. Anything we in particular we need to bring, besides the obvious board shorts, sunblock, etc.?

Bring whatever you want to eat and drink, we will be firing up a grill or two.We will probably have to make a store run, as we dont have an accurate count on who will show up.
A few bucks for gas to the boat owners is always a good thing.
Bring a wakeboard or wakeskate if you have one.Life jackets also.
Bring us some wind if you have any extra.....

Shell Key is looking sweet once again! With over 40 volunteers showing up (yes, I said 40) the cleanup went very well and wrapped up by noon, leaving the rest of the day for fun! Special thanks to Matt and the rest of the Eckerd crew, to show up and help out.

Thank you to EVERYONE who showed up, Mother Nature loves you all.........

Definatley had a BLAST! Not sure how many people we had on the boat at one time but it didn’t seem to have any effect on the Twin Yami’s. The tower came in handy for tying the ski rope to. Glad I was able to show off my incredible knee boarding skills while being towed behind the Jet ski. I think a B-B-Que is order for next go around. No wind next weekend should bring another day of wakeboarding….. I’ll bring the so called “Twin Screw Monster” or better known as …”the Impotent Sea Slug”

Thanks again Big G. The wake of "The Impotent Sea Slug" must've been on Viagra! I've been on some pretty big wakes over the years and that one definitely suprised me a few times, especially for a boat that wasn't made for wakeboarding. I'd definitely be into another opportunity for a session.

Man, I don't know about anybody else, but I got a little fried by the sun, even with a couple applications of sunblock.

Nice meeting those of you I haven't met before. Also good to put some faces to the names on this site.

I'm sorry A-Bomb, you got the wakeboarding moves. it was a tough decision for me but the best trick of that day goes to Big G "kneeboarding on his FLX52 UG" something I've never seen before. Big G was showing the skillz 2 the kidz. 8)

I would like to add a special thanks to Steve for pulling EVERYBODY behind the jet ski all day!
That definitely earned you some 'Chris Moore good karma' :D
