hey guys,
ive been kite surfing for about 2months now and i live in brandon my problem is i drive all the way over to st pete every time to kite surf i was wondering if you guys know of any other good areas around here because like 50% of the time by the time i get to st pete im eaither just catching the tail end of the wind or its already gone =-/ if you guys have any ideas i would greatly appriciate it.

P.S. for the up coming season i was wondering what you guys think a good strong wind kite/board would be right now i have a 16m SS octane, 20m Chabrina, and a liquid force 151 proof.

It depends a bit on weight, but a 9m Waroo might be a good high wind kite for you, with a board in the 130 cm range, based on what your other gear is. I used the 9m Waroo for my high wind kite last winter and it was the best winter season I ever had.

go for the switchblade 9 meter, i've noticed the waroo is reeally fluttery, the switchblade is madd stable, and a great high wind kite.

for a board you should get around a 130

i'd recommend an underground.

test drive some kites before you buy..
both pre-mentioned kites are great, quality, high performance rigs.. you will be happy with either, but you will be happier if you test both (and others) and find whats right for you.

i'll let you test ride my waroo 9 and/or 12 if the circumstances are good (i.e. I'm not riding it).. I'm sure that others can let you demo other brands.

also.. MOVE TO ST. PETE!! you will be much happier and get to kite more often. :wink:

I'm the same age, same weight.

I'd recommend selling the 20m, the 16m should take care of you down to about 8 knots... but since it's an octane, I'd say about 11knots with a bigger board.

Look for a 9m, I think watersports west has some 9m Fuels available I LOVE this kite... I've ridden this thing from 21mph-36mph without a one-line, and the one-line will give it even more range.

There's really no reason to go with a bow just yet... they're still too damn expensive. Unless you can get some major bro deal on one, or really like the bows, I wouldn't go for it.

Go with new year old equipment, you can't go wrong with the price and performance. Also, for boards, check out the Cautions, undergrounds, litewaves, and MAYBE a few customs.

If you can find a Caution 122 redline, I'd reccomend that. The footstraps are freakin awesome and the board is the best I've ridden. You can tell just from the improvements I've made since March.


First thing to do, is get rid of the 20m. You won't get much use out of it... and the sale of that 20 could get you a nice 9m, which you'll get a lot of use out of... or even an 11m since you've got the 16m and I don't know what it's high end is.

sell your 20 meter, you won't need that.
the 16 octane should be perfect for a lightwind kite, a friend of mine (Eagle) rides a 16 octane for his lightwind kite and i belive he weighs about the same as you.

I would go for a bow if your looking to learn quick, and still have a nice high performance kite when you start trying tricks.
the switchblade would be perfect.

but if you don't want a bow, cabrinha has some 06 C kites out now that should be sick!

awsome guys for the info and i will get your info so if we get some good wind and your able i would really appriciate getting to test the kites out it would really make my buying process alot easyer. =-)
