Wolfie and I are talkin maybe North Beach or doing a downwinder from my beach house on Bellair Beach to Sand Key Park. Seems like the wind may be significantly harder though up North so maybe DeSoto is the ticket.

It's not too much west for east beach?

Or maybe picnic island if there isn't too much water. The waves would be killer at the dropoff to the shipping channel but the incoming tide may make the water too fast to go upwind.

Just talked to Wolfie

They are riding at EG

9M Waroo and 8M c-kite

Not over-powered.

Launch little tricky due to gusts but good once get away from shore.

They are launching ALL the way in the water.

How're you guys riding EB? I was at Redington for 20 minutes, it was near straight onshore. It was a battle riding, I just gave up... was REALLY powered in the gusts on my 9m. Then the chop, wouldn't even call them waves man... just choppy as shit.

It surprised me that there were actually people out there.

Backside was E>>>>P>>>>>I>>>>C!!!!

blazing winds and lots of water.

fully litt on 9m waroo. jumping higher than ever ...pulled my first backroll... (landed a few of em.. crashed a hell of a lot more)

only a few of us out there, but everyone was rockin and rollin. it was very gusty at times... bow kite conditions for sure.. ill let the C-kite guys give the skinny on how it was for them.. i never once felt out of control w/ the gusts. Today combined with Sunday just solidified my waroo purchases as pretty much the best thing i have done with this sport. I had a BLAST today and Sunday and on a C-kite I think I would have had fun but not felt like I could try new tricks or try to jump higher.

Toby had a bit of trouble staying upwind later in the afternoon and ended up down the beach .. he was body dragging for his board. Dan was down riding near him making sure he was OK.. he was in control.

Dan came in and i rode down to check up on him and Dan came down the beach to help him land. They got his kite down and back up the beach. he was a ways down there.. about 200 yards from the bridge.. maybe closer..

apparently someone called 911.

about 3 minutes after his kite was back at the beach an ambulance, firetruck and a coast guard boat all show up. they talked to Toby.. Dan gave a thumbs up to the boat and they sped away..

was cool they got there so fast and ensured everyone was OK. they didnt seem upset that it was a non-emergency.. but if Toby had been riding alone (and I know he would not have been) it was reassuring that they could have been there to help out.

Wolfie will have to tell you about his altercation with a freak on the beach....

im sore and hungry.

Sounds awesome. Looking at the graph for the afternoon from 3-6 it looks like I would have been powered up and having fun on my 9m. Wish I could have ridden today!

At times, it had to have been gusting about 35-36. I was being just PULLED on my 9m.

Would've been more fun if the surf was cleaner or if I would've went elsewhere.

I would be riding a wave like / and then another way like this \ would come in and just mess it all up for me.

Was better then sitting around, which is what I would've done.

Yeah, worked at EB and issues getting the kite relaunched being blown downwind in the deep waters off to the right of the beach...Dan helped me get my board back after I swam and got the kite to relaunch, then I rode a bit and was working my way upwind only to bite it a second time and get worked. By the time I was back up, I was back where I started due to the strong current and I decided to drag upwind. Thanks for riding over and encouraging me to drag in to land the kite with Dan, Bryan! I bet I'd still be making my way upwind if you hadn't!!! Tough day on the water for my fat @ss but learned some lessons so all was not lost!

Yeah that guy in the white pickup also yelled at Jayson one day when he was launching me on my 25.5M Machine and the kite brushed up against his truck briefly. I think Jay laughed at him. This guy seems not to like kitesurfing yet insists on parking right up near the beach while he goes in for his daily derriere debriefing in his posh mangrove office...

EDIT: Just checked the slingshot site... that kites only supposed to go to 30 knots with a 175lb rider... It was easy to hold down in the water, but if I lost my board or came ashore it was just being a bitch for the most part.

Hey guys,

everybody seems to be here now. Why don't you go back to the old forum? It was way better organized and not so confusing....just curious...

I'm glad everybody had a great time with Alberto, I'm sure there are more to come.

Have a great day,

MissChriss

So, exactly, how bad was Alberto to you guys. Us northerners have no concept. Was it just a big media frenzy over a heavy rainfall?

BigR
06-14-2006, 12:57 PM
yep, big frenzy

canes come in diff flavors, this one was mostly a lil wind

others are all wind or all rain or both

THE BIG ONE's still out there...................

I know what you're saying Kev, I think it's around 35knot on my 9m and I am very uncomfortable (unable to stand still, even when sitting) when on land. Whatever it was at the first boardercross... that was above my limit for a 9m.

kiteman1978
06-14-2006, 01:46 PM
crap! 35 knot on a 9M...I am afraid to fly my 3M in 20 knots...of course, being drug across an open field is more painful than sluushin through water...

BigR
06-14-2006, 02:11 PM
I believe the bordercross was 35-gusting to 45kts or so

I was real happy on the 9M bow

I was holding it down... riding was no problem. But when walking and trying to drag to my board it was just a pain in the ass. So, I sat and landed it... didn't drag me TOO much while sitting.

Really BigR? Thats good to know about flat kites. 35 gusting to 40's on my 9m C kite was pretty scary even with someone holding me down. I will never do that again if I can help it.

Once on the water is wasn't too bad though. I wish it hadn't been a race so I could have sent it a few times.

Strange how holding an edge is no problem huh tom... problem is getting out onto the water though!

Because I had no problem edging upwind or riding (except when trying to get onto a few waves, that's when I'd lose my board) but once on land or having to drag, it was a different story.

hey that pic is Dan and me at BS skyway last night..not EB...

doesnt look it, but the wind was still crankin in. Dan on the 12 waroo, me on the 9.. still powered and having a blast.. unfortunately being at BS after dark is not on our "to do" list so as the sun set we got our butts (litterally) out of there.

:)

great photo..
