My kite bag for my new Ion was getting on my nerves because it was not big enough for me to do my normal, sloppy packing job (after all, all I have to do is throw the kite in the Element). I hate packing kites so I want a big freakin' bag.

I solved the problem by making a bag out of $4.00 worth of fabric and $2.00 of rope I got at Wal-Mart. That and a lit bit of mad textile fabrication skillz, and I now have a big ass bag to put the Ion in. Plus, I got a cool fabric that has King Kong on it.

I know that admitting to sewing isn't going to help things, but let's try to move past that. I tried to find a fabric with Hello Kitty or unicorns on it, but no luck so far. My Little Pony was as hardcore as it got.

I think I am going to upgrade and make another bag out of canvas just to make certain nothing cuts through the fabric and damages the kite. Also, I am going to make some custom pink sandbags for anyone who hates so watch your step!

Here's the Flexi bag, as well as the Bone Bag (TM). The Bone Bag has the surfer print fabric sewed over heavy corduroy fabric. The corduroy should keep anything from ever cutting through and getting to the kite.

Cost, $4.00 for 2 yards of corduroy (was on the cheapo rack), $6.00 for 2 yards of the red/white fabric, maybe $0.75 worth of nylon rope, and an $80.00, entry level sewing machine that one of my fashionista daughters wanted anyhow. Already had the black spray paint and the stencil set.

Took about 20-30 minutes to make on a day with no wind anyhow.

Here's the original Kong bag...had to upgrade from this because it is as thin as a bedsheet and I did not figure it would protect the kite enough. Did not think of the corduroy idea until today. Cool stuff written on the print, though, like "Fight to Survive" and "Outta My Way." Sort of like a light wind session at the Skyway.

Eric,

I am serious. I need a nice board bag.. can you do it? At what fee?

I'll do it for just materials cost (fabric and gas to the store to get it), which should be cheap. Do you want a bag with a 6 foot zipper? I ask because I don't know where to find the zipper. If you are looking for a a bag to slide the board into, like a surf-style board bag, that should be pretty easy. It really depends on what you want the bag to be.

Slide into too.

I insist on some type of fee.. this could be the start of a local deal! :P

OK, we'll figure it out, but I don't plan to buy a vacation home with the Bone Bag revenues.

It looks like it is gonna blow today, so the bag is on the back burner until after the session. Any particular color you are looking for? I have 2.25 yards of pink My Little Pony fabric already, but I suspect that you probably want something else. Wal-Mart had similar patterns in blue and black prints, the red, of course, and there was one other surf style fabric that was cool, as well.
