Looks like it could be windy late in the afternoon with some waves:

where is the best pace to catch those waves? I was thinking North Beach in Fort Desoto...

The waves at North Beach are better on a NW wind, north wind can be hit or miss.
On a north wind some of the best waves, and riding are up in Indian Rocks Beach. 26th/27th ave and Gulf Blvd.

Another great spot is off the beach at Treasure Island, south side of John's Pass (drawbridge). About 1/4 mile out there is a large sandbar with nice waves.
