I just ordered one of these ($299.99 USD), improved low light capability would be worth it all on its own. But they have all the other performance enhancements. I bolded some of the important ones to me anyway below. These are some MAJOR capability improvements. Looking forward to checking it out.

Hi Rick, I've seen the pics you posted and they look great. Do you have any tips on how to mount the camera to the kite? I have the mount you use for the lines but have been hesitant to use it, mostly because I'm afraid of loosing the camera. Same goes for mounting to a bladder, I'm afraid of turning the kite too hard or hitting the water and the camera goes flying off. I've looked online but haven't found too much.

Should be a good wind weekend in Tampa and would love to take some shots.

Thanks - Jason

Thanks BigR, I spoke to the reporter late on Monday and wasn't sure if anything would show up in the article. He did an nice overview in the piece. It really is an amazing camera for the size and price. I started communicating with one of the key guys at GoPro in 2009. I was intrigued with the underwater possibilities for the camera, then the WIDE model before the HD and corrected port optics. I had no idea they had fewer than seven people at the time. They have been doing some growing!

The article shows up at:

Just starting to look over the stuff from South Beach last night. I launched about three miles north and blasted down offshore fast to catch the sunset off SoBE near Government Cut. Here are a few shot via the current GoPro HD mounted on my kite and helmet around sunset. The 2012 Switchblade performed spot on, sailing close to the wind and off the wind well. The larger size helped in the lulls and powering upwind too.

Some more shots from the South Beach session, this time with normal processing. Again, these photos were taken with the current GoPro HD camera. My HD2 is in transit. I wasn't able to do much with some of what should have been the most incredible shots later in the sunset. Things were too dark and there was camera motion, it is on a kite after all. The new camera is supposed to have enhanced low light capabilities in addition to double the resolution. Wish I had it for this session.

Pretty cool Rick. I am fairly new to the kite world but am loving the GoPro camera. It makes a rookie look good!

It is an impressive camera, more so at the price! Nice video clip, shifting of perspectives and editing!

Have fun out there!

How was this shot (see attached) done?
Just by holding the camera in hand or from some sort of stick at the back of sufboard?

I would say with some sort of short monopod from the way it frames his shoulder. You can do pretty well just holding the camera but for a bit further out, wider view a monopod helps.

A shot with a fully extended Quikpod monopod.
