Was kiting at the bio lab in mosquito lagoon with some friends and got ran out by the ranger who asked us to leave or the FWC would give us all tickets for $150. After doing some research I found this on there site...

"You may not use air thrust boats, hover craft, personal watercraft, kite surfing,
kite boarding, wind surfing, sail boarding and other similar non-wildlife oriented
recreational activities in Refuge waters."

http://www.fws.gov/merrittisland/2010Fish&Regs.pdf

Has anyone looked into why we are not allowed to kite here?

endangering mosquitoes!

That sucks, as it looks like to be a pretty epic location. You get to kite for a bit?

Yeah it was a great place to ride on west winds. The ranger showed up before I could go out so no kiting for me that day.

I'm sure it has something to do with the fact that it is the "Merritt Island
National Wildlife Refuge", mainly the words Wildlife Refuge.

Probably has something to do with damaging the ecosystem there as like many other places it is rare and probably fragile.
