Am a relative newbie to Tampa Bay. With big NW winds predicted for tomorrow was wondering about the best spot to find some clean waves to kite on? Any local knowledge on this subject appreciated....

Tim

Try Ft. Desoto's North Beach:

North Beach is definitely good.
Treasure Island (northern end near John's Pass) can also be very good. Often times better than NB. If NW, some of us will be doing a Down Winder. That's the BEST place for NW ;) call if you want.

Thanks for the tip on the north end of TI by John's Pass. I can see from the aerial photo how the TI side sticks out from the Maderia Beach side which should set up some nice rollers on a NW wind. Hope to get there mid morning tomorrow....Wednesday, Dec 1.

Just another bit of info. If it is due North, TI will be slightly off shore and suck. NB works better on due North, which it might be. NW though, TI really rocks.

Hi Scott,

Didn't get your post with the tip on John's Pass sucking on North winds till just now. However, after looking at the site map I guessed as much. When the wind went North today, I headed for Pass A Grille and enjoyed a decent session in up and down winds which my Peter Lynn kites handle very well due to their softer more flexible structure. None the less, I appreciate the input and hope to see you on the water sometime soon...

Tim

Cool. Myself and two other kiters (and 4 windsurfers) hit North Beach.
It was pretty gusty there as well. I wanted to do a DWer, but it seemed too far north at 10am.
